Purchasing Personalised Number Plates From DVLA

DVLA Personalised Registrations have over 45 million registrations available for you to purchase online, so while locating your perfect number plate might seem unnerving at first, the procedure is actually quite easy.

If your selection is available to procure online, simply click the ‘buy now’ button and follow the on-screen commands. If you previously have an online account with the DVLA registration website, then you’ll need to log in with your user id and password to finish the purchase. If you don’t have an account, click on ‘create account’ and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your new account and finish your purchase that way instead.

There are no extra charges on personalised registrations purchased at a static price through the site. The price takes into account the VAT and DVLA fees too, so the price displayed is the ultimate price you pay.

For registration numbers being sold at an auction held by the DVLA, the bidding begins at a fixed reserve price that does not take in the buyer’s premium, VAT or DVLA fees though. These extra fees will be added to the final price decided when the hammer falls for the last time. The auction catalogues comprise of a thorough breakdown of the costs for you to know what the final value will be.

The DVLA does not supply the actual plates to be attached to your vehicle, that’s where we come in. These can be purchased separately from us here at Pro Plates. We will then ensure the plates are finished nicely to the precise legal standard for the road, or if you prefer we can create a show plate which is strictly for use on private land and OFF the road.

For online purchases bought through the DVLA’s site, you will get an email confirmation of your purchase within 24 hours, and a Certificate of Entitlement (V750) which will be dispatched to the address you gave, which you should obtain within two weeks. This is your evidence of entitlement and the application form you must use to allocate the registration number to a car.

For auction acquisitions, you should get the Certificate of Entitlement (V750) within two weeks after your payment has cleared. Remember that you must apply to DVLA to allocate the personalised registration number to your car. You must not show the registration number or plate on a vehicle until you have received authorisation from DVLA in the form of a Registration Certificate (V5C) in regards to the new registration number itself

You also have until the expiry date shown on your certificate to have the number allocated to a vehicle too.

Remember that you will need to purchase the new plates from a registered number plate supplier, such as us here at Pro Plates, who will ensure the plates are made to the correct legal standard.

Happy reg hunting.
