Some buildings don’t have a 13th floor, some footballers will shy away from the number 13 shirt and now unlucky 13 has created a frisson of anxiety in the motor industry.
Car manufacturers and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency have been discussing how they will cope with the 13 number plate which comes into force in March.
In an AA poll of 20,000 members, 10 per cent said they would not by a car with a number 13 registration plate.
A third said they believed they would have more difficulty selling on a car with a 13 number plate, with women proving more superstitious country than men.
While the DVLA insists that the 13 plate will be displayed on cars when it comes into force, it also recognises that some drivers could be a touch anxious about tempting fate.
In turn discreetly some manufacturers accept that seriously motorists could even delay buying a new car until August, when the plate changes to 63.
